Sherry Turkle

Updated: Nov 29, 2021

Sherry Turkle was ahead of her time with her predictions of digital communication and how these technologies could be detrimental for human conversation and real connection.

I found Sherry Turkle's insights to be very relevant today. Her ted talk "Connected, but alone" was posted almost decade ago and our technology in the communication sphere has only increased since. I would agree with her notion that we're reaching an age where we are "alone together" and she states, "people want to be with each other but also elsewhere, connected to all the other places that they want to be." With the developments of social media, we are experiencing this more than ever. The ability to be connected to millions of people has never been easier, but it's hard to distinguish what "connected" even means anymore. I personally find value in disconnecting, and making space in each day to be present and I think in the future we will have to be more diligent with our attention

and time as its gets increasingly harder to resist

the urge to "plug in" and wasted away your day.
